People enter therapy for different reasons and with different goals. Sometimes a person experiencing acute transition or trauma such as divorce, death, the birth of a child, or other life changes may need extra support through the difficult time, especially if their usual methods of coping are not successful. Other people come to therapy with known chronic issues, while others come with a sense that "something isn't right." We often find ourselves repeating negative patterns of thought, feelings, behaviors, or relationships that do not serve our growth or happiness, yet we feel stuck or helpless about changing. Counseling can help us discover how to develop new positive patterns and understand the root causes of the past, negative patterns or belief systems. The treatment I provide is centered on the needs of the client. The first work is to clarify and establish therapy goals. Once accomplished, we will examine areas of your life, including relationships at home, at work, with friends and with yourself. Through that process, we will also explore new ways of acting and reacting to problems and challenges that have limited your life in the past.

I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen, heard, understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, understand and touch another person. When this is done, I feel contact has been made. Virginia Satir
